Description: EcoWB is seeking fluent bilingual speakers of Spanish and English to support the Marismas Nacionales mangrove restoration project. Work would be conducted remotely from the volunteer’s location.
The Marismas Nacionales is located on the Pacific coast of Mexico south of Mazatlan and north of Puerto Vallarta. It is the largest single expanse of mangroves on the Pacific coast of Mexico and all of the Americas and accounts for 20% of the mangrove area in Mexico. EcoWB, with partners in Mexico, is involved in efforts to restore and protect the mangrove forests in the Marismas Nacionales.
There are numerous documents, studies, and reports associated with the project that are produced in either Spanish or English. The project team contains both Spanish and English speakers and it is important that all team members have a common understanding and use of documents. As the project moves forward, external communications with local communities and stakeholders will also be needed. Volunteer translation tasks would range from simple checking and correcting of translations from translator programs to helping to write video scripts, social media posts, or other communications.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish
- Excellent written communications skills in both English and Spanish
- Self-motivated and able to work remotely with minimal direction
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse audiences
- A background in the natural sciences is preferred
